Privacy Policy for Solis Weather
This Privacy Policy explains how Solis Weather ("we", "our", or "us") handles information when you use our iOS app. Solis Weather is designed to work primarily on your device; we do not operate our own account system or backend in the app as shipped.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Location Information (Optional)
If you allow location access, we collect your approximate/current location to provide local weather data.
- Location permission is requested only when needed in the app.
- You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings.
1.2 City Search and Selection
When you search for a place or pick a city, your search text and chosen location may be stored on your device as recent city history (for example in app storage such as UserDefaults) so you can switch cities quickly.
1.3 Geocoding (Apple)
City search uses Apple’s on-device and system services (for example geocoding) to turn a place name into coordinates. Those requests are subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not receive a separate copy of that traffic on our own servers.
1.4 Device and Technical Data
The app may use standard iOS features that imply limited technical context on the device (for example system language or region for formatting). Unless you later enable features that send diagnostics to a third party, we do not require you to create an account and the app does not upload a user profile to us as part of core weather features.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide current weather, hourly forecast, and daily forecast.
- To show weather based on your selected city or current location.
- To save your recent city choices locally for convenience.
- To maintain app reliability, performance, and security.
3. Weather Data Providers
To show forecasts, the app requests weather data over the internet. Depending on your iOS version and availability, this may include:
- Apple Weather (WeatherKit) — subject to Apple’s terms and privacy practices.
- Open-Meteo (fallback when WeatherKit is unavailable or fails) — requests go to Open-Meteo’s API and typically include latitude and longitude (and parameters such as timezone) needed for a forecast. See Open-Meteo terms and their privacy information.
We do not control how those providers process server logs or telemetry; please read their policies if you need detail beyond what this app sends in a weather request.
4. Local Storage
We store certain app data locally on your device, such as:
- Recent cities
- App preferences (for example temperature unit)
We do not sell this local data.
5. Advertising (Planned / Future)
Future versions may show ads through an advertising SDK. If we enable ads, ad partners may process identifiers, coarse location, or usage signals as described in their own privacy policies and as permitted on iOS (for example Apple’s App Tracking Transparency rules where applicable).
We will update this policy and, where required, in-app disclosures before or when advertising goes live.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Weather and geocoding features inherently involve network requests to Apple and/or other forecast providers as described above. Those providers act as independent processors under their own policies.
7. Data Retention
Data stored locally remains on your device until you delete the app or clear app data. Third-party provider retention is governed by their own policies.
8. Children’s Privacy
Solis Weather is not directed to children under the age required by applicable law, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
9. Your Choices
- Disable location permission in iOS Settings.
- Use manual city selection instead of device location.
- Delete the app to remove locally stored app data.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
